Obituary for Johnnie Mae Montgomery Harris

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Montgomery Harris of Wrens, GA formerly of Thomson, GA was born on November 18, 1947 in Thomson, GA to both the late Ella Louise Montgomery Archer and Frank Archer. She passed away at her new residence where she had recently relocated in Jefferson County, GA on January 31, 2019 at the tender age of 71.

At a very young age, Johnnie Mae accepted Christ and became a member of the Saint James A.M.E. Church (now Greater Saint James A.M.E. Church) in Thomson, GA where she have continued to be a member even after relocating to Rochester, NY after marrying the love of her life. In 1991, she was joined in holy matrimony with Robert Harris. Johnnie Mae was educated and attended school in the McDuffie School System of GA in her early years.

During her employment years, she worked at the former National Homes Corporation and the former Uniroyal Plant, both formerly of Thomson, GA. Johnnie Mae soon found her niche when she obtained employment in 1974 at the former Thomson Manor Nursing Home (now known as Thomson Health and Rehabilitation) as a certified nursing assistant. She later married the love of her life, and moved to Rochester, NY where she resided and continued to serve as a CNA with a more define role. While working in New York, she trained others in specific courses for several years before retiring and returning to her roots in Georgia. After returning to Georgia, Johnnie Mae later obtained her GED by attending the Augusta Technical College in 2013. Motivated and encouraged by family members, she furthered her education by remaining at the Augusta Technical College as a student, and thus receiving a Certificate in Early Childhood Education in 2015. In her final years of working, she put her early childhood certificate to work by periodically working at the “To The Top Youth Center” in Wrens, GA and “Lil Bo Peep Daycare” in Thomson, GA. She was always great with the kids.

In her spare time, Johnnie Mae enjoyed listening to old soulful music and watching television programs with her husband on a daily basis such as old western movies, the Judge Mathis Show and wrestling shows. As she continued to grow and mature, her mind stayed sharp. Johnnie Mae was known for never missing family members’ birthdays, anniversaries or holidays with a phone call, a visit or card. That was her way of saying “I love you.” Her family members and friends, fondly remembers her always smiling and saying “Johnnie Mae remembers everything.” She loved all of us. Our beloved Johnnie Mae Montgomery Harris is preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Lashanda Monekia Eubanks; a granddaughter, Shondricka Eubanks; a grandmother, Lizzie Lampkin and a grandfather, Julian Lampkin.

Her memories will forever be cherished by her loving family members and friends: a devoted husband of 27 years, Robert “Bob” Harris of Wrens, GA; a daughter, Janine (Rev. Samuel, Jr.) A. Cooper of Swainsboro, GA; three sons, Daniel A. (Jenifer) Eubanks, Deon Eubanks (Annette), all of Wrens, GA and James (Carisa) Wiley; twenty grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a close and loving sister, Mattie Lee (Bill) McCord of Thomson, GA; an aunt, Robbie Lampkin of Thomson, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many sorrowing friends.
