Obituary for Mother Mae Bell Harris Ruff

Mrs. Mae Bell Harris Ruff, age 87 of Thomson, GA, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Augusta, GA at the University Hospital. She was born in Warrenton, GA on Monday, July 13, 1931 to Kinie Bell Neal Harris and Thomas Harris. As a child, Mae Bell attended school whenever she could. The young children of her generation were used as field-hands whenever needed by the family. At a young age, she became a member of the Thankful Baptist Church in Glascock County, GA. She was the Mother of the church and a member of the missionary board . Mae Bell was a dedicated member until her health failed.

She united holy matrimony to John Willie Ruff on Sunday, May 9, 1948 in Glascock County, GA. From this union six children were born. An exceptional mother, and the matriarch of the family, Mae Bell loved her family with every fiber in her being. During her employment years, she worked as a custodian for the Warren County Board of Education in Warrenton, GA. When she was not spending quality time with family or friends, she enjoyed cooking. Having never met a stranger, people often stopped by just to eat. She never refused anyone a dinner; she welcomed them with open arms like any mother would.

Our beloved Mae Bell Harris Ruff was a wonderful daughter, the world’s best mom, the sweetest sister, and a gift from God. She will truly be missed. Dear loved-ones who preceded her in death are: her husband, John Willie Ruff, her mother, Kinie Bell Neal Harris; her father, Thomas Harris; a sister, Mattie Harris and a brother, Willie Harris.

Those left to adore and cherish her wonderful memories: six children, Rebecca Hudson, Thomson, GA; Willie, Jr. (Gwendolyn) Ruff of Lithonia, GA, Becky Fountain of Thomson, GA, James (Deborah) Ruff of Dearing, GA, Bobby, Sr. (Marilyn) Ruff, Judy (Tommy) Denson, all of Thomson, GA; twenty grandchildren; fifty nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Allene Jackson, Dorothy Bonner both of Thomson, GA; two brothers, Tommy C.
