Obituary for Mary "Ms. Candy" Johnson Stockton Hill

(Proverbs 8:11 KJV)
“For wisdom is better than rubies;
and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”

Mary Johnson Stockton-Hill was born in Mesena, GA to both the late Louise Grant Johnson and Shedd Johnson on Monday, April 23, 1923. At the Lord’s request, she departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the University Hospital in Augusta, GA. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ola Pearl Stockton Ivey; a sister, Martha Scott a brother James Johnson and a grandmother, Mary Grant.

Sis. Mary joined the Paynes Baptist Church of Mesena, GA at an early age. She was a faithful servant and proud member. Sis. Mary truly enjoyed attending church. She attended services regularly until her health began to fail.

“Ms. Candy” as Mary was often called, had a passion for cooking. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching various soap operas on the television. Not only was she a very jubilant person, she always kept you laughing. Almost more than life itself, she enjoyed spending quality time with family, and the company of good friends.

She worked at the former Thomson Laundry of Thomson, GA as a Dry Cleaning Presser for many years. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Albert Stockton for over twenty years. From this union, one child was born, Ola Pearl Stockton. Ms. Candy birthed only one child, but raised five as her own. She will be greatly missed from our day to day lives, yet forever loved.

Those left to cherish her memories: two grandchildren, Tiffany Nicole Ivey of Mesena, GA and Jonathan (Ashley) Ivey of Augusta GA; four great-grandchildren, Sariya Ivey, Izaiah Ivey, Shalynn Ivey and Jionni Ivey, all of Augusta, GA; three step-children, Darlene Hill of Greensboro, GA, Robert Lee Hill and Willie Clarence; a loving and devoted nephew, Robert (Phan Thi ) Scott, of Savannah, GA; a devoted cousin, Patricia Brown of Decatur, GA; two special friends, Sandra Landers and Clara Kendrick, both of Mesena, GA; a host of nieces, additional nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
